March 22, 2015 - Tomatoes Have Sprouted

 Peppers are all up now.  The germination rate was very good, only 3 or 4 pots failed to germinate.

The tomatoes have begun to sprout: first up were the Polverini tomatoes.

Basil is also sprouting, the pots closest to the center are up.

I put up the plastic this afternoon and weeded out a bed.  My intention is to plant some spinach and lettuce in a few days - after the soil has a chance to warm up.

March 18, 2015 - Tomatoes Have Been Planted

Despite there being snow in the forecast once again I decided to go ahead and get the tomatoes started. This year I'm doing all of them by seed.

• Green Zebra
• Silvery Fir Tomatoes
• Potato Leaf Tomatoes
• Goldie Yellow Tomatoes
• And a first round of basil

March 15, 2015 - Pepper Starts

The peppers are sprouting after sowing the seeds two weeks ago.  Its been very cold in the basement, and the heating mat hasn't been able to keep the soil much above 60. 

I started four of each: Viennese Hot Peppers, Italian Roasters, Shishito Peppers, King Arthur Red Bell Peppers, and Mini Chocolate Bell Peppers.

July 10, 2014 - The Garden is Producing

5 different varieties of tomatoes, several zucchini and yellow squash, plus more cucumbers than I know what to do with.  And this is just what didn't get eaten already!   I love this time of year!

July 5, 2014 - Early July Update

Helper dog is helping.

Lots of fruit that are almost ready.  Several of the fruit have rotting ends too - I'm not sure why.

 Eggplant are the biggest I've ever grown. I finally might be able to get a meaningful eggplant this year.  I've tried for 3 years now and I have never harvested an eggplant larger than an egg.

 Tomatoes all around are looking good.  I've trimmed up the lower branches to increase the airflow - it was getting way too dense down there.  Some of the trimmed branches showed signs of yellowing/browning.

 The basil are not liking the hot weather, especially the purple basil which is all but dead.

The best crop of bell peppers I've ever had.  

Beans are all healthy.  The bush bean are all but  over taken by the pole beans.

The cucumbers might have to get trimmed, they've left the trellis and are now taking over the path. I picked seven of them this afternoon.

That Hades Hot plant is insane.  There has to be 50 peppers on there.  The rest are growing just fine too.
